La série Ligne s'inspire du fleuve et de ses territoires pour offrir des horizons minimalistes où une ligne épurée ouvre l'espace, révèle l'immensité et recrée le vertige contemplatif propre à la nature.

Démarche | Process

La série Ligne, anciennement intitulée Paysage, explore le territoire à travers la simplicité radicale de l’horizon. Inspirée par le fleuve Saint-Laurent et ses vastes étendues, elle propose des compositions où la ligne devient un seuil : parfois minimale et atmosphérique, parfois plus construite et stratifiée. Dans ces variations, l’horizon ouvre l’immensité, structure le regard et organise l’espace en un territoire à la fois contemplatif et habité.

Si les premières œuvres se distinguent par leurs tons neutres, leurs nappes vaporeuses et la présence discrète des bateaux, la série s’est progressivement élargie vers des paysages plus composés, où les formes se superposent, se découpent et se déploient en strates chromatiques. Cette dimension plus graphique et architecturée prolonge la réflexion initiale sur la perception du territoire, tout en créant un dialogue naturel avec les recherches formelles de Surface.

Première série de ma pratique et premier passage vers les galeries, Ligne conserve une place fondatrice dans mon parcours. La matière, la texture et la lumière y ont longtemps servi de prétexte pour interroger la surface et le territoire, impulsion qui mènera plus tard aux grandes formes colorées de Surface puis aux constructions modulaires d’Espace.

Aujourd’hui, Ligne demeure un lieu essentiel de ma démarche : un terrain souple où coexistent dépouillement et structure, souffle et ancrage. J’y reviens avec la liberté de réinventer l’horizon — tantôt comme geste atmosphérique, tantôt comme architecture sensible — fidèle à la source de ce qui continue de guider mon travail.

The Ligne series, formerly titled Paysage, explores territory through the radical simplicity of the horizon. Inspired by the St. Lawrence River and its vast open spaces, the series offers compositions in which the horizon becomes a threshold — at times minimal and atmospheric, at times more constructed and stratified. Across these variations, the line opens up immensity, organizes vision, and shapes a contemplative yet inhabited space.

While the early works are defined by neutral tones, soft atmospheric gradations, and the discreet presence of boats, the series has gradually expanded to include more structured landscapes, where forms overlap, fold, and unfold in chromatic strata. This more graphic, architectural dimension extends the initial inquiry into the perception of territory, creating a natural dialogue with the formal explorations that would later define Surface.

As the first series of my practice — and my first entry into the gallery world — Ligne holds a foundational place within my artistic trajectory. Material, texture, and light long served as a pretext to question surface and territory, a line of inquiry that would eventually lead to the large chromatic forms of Surface and the modulated architectures of Espace.

Today, Ligne remains an essential site within my practice: a flexible terrain where structure and openness coexist, where atmosphere meets construction. I return to it with the freedom to reinvent the horizon — sometimes as an ethereal gesture, sometimes as a sensitive architecture — always in dialogue with the source that continues to shape my work.
